Leïla SOUSSI

Ceramic designer and founder of Au Pays du Carrousel. A story of family, of gestures passed down, and of material.

« L'esprit se croit sur un carrousel ; on tourne, on tourne, on repasse vingt fois au même endroit ; à certains tours on décroche un anneau. »

André Gide, Journal, 1932

From a very young age I watched and copied my father's movements during his long hours at the bench. It was in the spellbinding atmosphere of his workshop that I absorbed the gestures, the sounds and the sensations that belong to this beautiful craft.

Five years of product design followed by two years of ceramic design at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de Limoges (ENSA) allowed me to develop a distinctive view of jewellery — a world I discovered early on with my father, a jeweller in Tunisia.

So my company draws on both experiences: that of the ceramic designer and that of the jeweller. Au Pays du Carrousel sets out to connect these two worlds — so close, so complementary — which fascinate me as much as ever.
